Thermoplastic composites are divided into long-fiber reinforced and short-fiber reinforced types. The ends of the fibers in the composites are often the initiating point for crack growth, and the small number of long fiber ends also results in increased impact strength.

Long fiber blends tangle, flip and bend with each other as they are filled into the mold, unlike short fiber blends which are aligned in the flow direction. As a result, long fiber reinforced thermoplastic(LFT&LFRT) are more isotropic, straighter, and less warped than the same molded parts made of short fiber blend, resulting in better dimensional stability.
